CORRECT MEASUREMENT FOR...
COLLAR WITH BUCKLE
Our collars with buckle are adjustable to 5 different sizes. The neck circumference you specify will be positioned on the middle setting.
So you can make the collar two holes narrower or wider if necessary.
Distance of the holes for collars up to 35cm
1,5cm between two holes
Distance of the holes for collars from 35cm.
2cm between two holes
Measure the open collar
FOR PUPPIES AND YOUNG DOGS
Choose „Grow Big“-option at the end of the order process!
We position the neck circumference you specify to the smallest setting. So the collar can grow together with your dog. If you want the collar to have a different hole position or even more holes, you can also enter this in the text field.
SLIM DOGS & SMALL SIZES
Our standard collars have leather application made of 19mm wide saddler leather. For collars under 30cm we use 16mm wide saddler leather that the collar is more delicate. If your dog is very narrow and has a larger neck circumference or you just love it very fine, you can leave us a message in the shopping cart.
MEASURE AN EXISTING AND WELL FITTING COLLAR
After you have measured your dog's neck circumference with the flexible tape measure - it is important that it fits tightly - you should also measure an existing collar inside if it is on the hole setting as your dog always wears it and is closed. Make sure that the tape measure fits exactly and no gaps are left out.
Accurate measurement is very important for the pull-stop variant! The collar must fit well, because it is not adjustable.
If it is too big the dog can easily slip out or it can also be lost if it slips too easily over the head. Therefore the pull stop should not slip too easily over the head and still be comfortable for the dog.
If the collar is too tight, it chokes or, in the worst case, does not fit over the head at all.
Therefore measure the following with a close fitting tape measure:
- Circumference of the dog's neck in the middle position
- Circumference of the neck in the narrow part of the neck directly behind the ears
- Circumference of the head
In addition, you should measure an existing and well-fitting Zustopp collar as shown:
If you don't have a pull-stop collar - or none of them fits really well - you can measure one collar with buckle on the "fits on neck" setting and the second measurement on the "fits over head" setting. Again, take the inside measurement without gaps.
THE RIGHT WIDTH...
THE RIGHT WIDTH...
Our leather collars are cut by hand to the strap with the width of your choice. Therefore there are no limits here. Nevertheless we have fixed sizes and variations in our store - if you can't find your desired width please send us a message.
Leather collars in the following widths you can choose in the store:
2,5 cm > 2 cm
3 cm > 2 cm
4 cm > 2 cm
4,5 cm > 2 cm
We "rejuvenate" the wider straps in order to be able to use a more delicate buckle, because we want to make it as soft as possible on the dog's neck.
Our Biothane straps are also rejuvenated to 2cm by the unique leather finish.
Exception is - as the name already reveals - the FAT BAILY. Here a larger (25mm) buckle is used.
Leashes made of Biothane have a standard width of 19mm. On request we can also make them narrower.
WHICH WIDTH TO CHOOSE...
When choosing the width you should consider how big your dog is and what shape of neck he has. If the neck is shorter and narrow you should choose a narrow to medium strap. If the neck is long and narrow, you can also choose wider to very wide collars. Large dogs can of course wear narrow to very wide collars. Make sure that the band is not too narrow when the dog is pulling more when using the leash.
If you need help with the correct width, feel free to send us a photo - we'll be happy to help.
